Agency business has always been built on mutual trust: Principal entrusts the agent to perform his interests in the port of call of his ship, agent trusts the shipowner when paying port dues and other charges and protecting his interests in matters with third parties involved in cargo handling, passenger services, ships repair etc.
Imperial custom to establish rules regardless of international traditions and interests of service consumers allowed government monopoly for ship agency to prosper for 57 years until the collapse of the USSR.
There is no doubt that improvement of service quality is only possible in the competitive environment, but the truth should be admitted that the Soviet system of staff choosing and training had a high degree of sophistication, as personnel has always been one of the main steps to success of shipping agency.
Such professionals as experienced captains and staff captains, representatives of Sovfracht in foreign ports, who perfectly knew the demands of the shipowners used to come to INFLOT to work as ship agents.
Here we have to remember the names of people who at different times stood at the wheel of INFLOT and made their significant contribution for the prosperity and perfection of INFLOT. Those, who gone at different times:

The high standards of knowledge and skills, which were established in the international shipping practice, including port operation, year by year have been laying the foundation for INFLOT main priority, which is a skilled and careful attitude to the ship, funds and requirements of the Principal.
Priorities step by step turned into traditions, which not all the companies can boast with, as a long time is needed for their formation. That is why we took with us into a new state and environment our best traditions, one of which is to act in the principals interests shipowners, charterers, operartors those who entrust us their fleet, funds and even sometimes their lives.
Such business approach remains for today. At the same time a lot of changes have taken place starting from the year 1991 as a result of rapidly changing environment and market.
